Research Science Assistant I, Department of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering

About the role

The Research Science Assistant I is responsible for assignments that require technical knowledge to modify or adapt routine procedures, under a supervisor's direction, to meet special research requirements. This role assists with assignments that require a basic working knowledge of engineering or scientific methods, such as research, design, or experimental testing. This is a grant-funded, temporary position with an expected end date of 8/31/2027. This position may be extended or shortened based on availability of funds and/or departmental need.

Core Responsibilities

• Collects and compiles data, computes quantities, extends estimates, and makes and records observations/measurements.
• Sets up and operates equipment as directed by the supervisor.
• Assists in the design of equipment.
• Writes simple computer programs and prepares technical reports.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma, Vocational Training, or Apprenticeship in a related field.
• One (1) year of related work experience.
• This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Working Conditions

• Usual laboratory, office, or outdoor field work.
• Sometimes requires working with hazardous equipment or materials.

Physical Demands

• Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
• This position will work primarily on campus.
• Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.
