Research Protocol Technician
About the role
The project aims to study how individuals with minimal biology experience teach themselves foundational cell and molecular biology techniques. This role observes their learning process and informs advancements in AI-assisted biological research.
Core Tasks
- Complete tasks such as DNA assembly (molecular cloning), mammalian cell culture, and mammalian cell transfection.
Requirements
- Entry-level role for individuals with limited prior biology laboratory experience.
- Candidates must not be currently practicing biological laboratory research.
- You must be currently enrolled in or hold a bachelor's degree, with educational background in any domain including a non-biological STEM field, biology, or a humanities/social science.
- This is a temporary role with a fixed term of 8 weeks from September 24 to November 20, 2026.
- Work authorization for U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and individuals authorized to work in the U.S.
Work Environment
You will work completely independently and will not receive technical mentorship or assistance from Active Site employees or other technicians. You will be provided with a desk, lab bench, laptop, and phone, along with all necessary lab equipment, resources, and materials.
Logistics & Policies
- Lab location: 11-minute walk from Lechmere Station, 10-minute walk from Kendall Station, and 8-minute walk from the First St Garage.
- No parking or travel assistance provided.
- Flexible hours or remote work not accommodated.
- Make-up days for illness only, no vacation beyond 3 days during the 8-week term.
- Engage in other jobs or classes as long as they don't provide hands-on wet lab experience and don't conflict with your scheduled hours.
- Future employment not available after the position ends.
- Personal device use not allowed while working.
- Office closed on October 12 and November 11.
