About the role

This position provides administrative and technical oversight for a research laboratory in the Department of Physiology. Responsibilities include ensuring research protocols are followed and met; safety guidelines are followed in accordance with institution and government regulations; management of laboratory resources; providing teaching and technical oversight to students, postdoctoral fellows, and technicians; processing of data, presenting findings, and assisting the Principal Investigator (PI) with current and future studies and research applications.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex experiments and data analysis related to producing research results and preparing findings for future development in conjunction with lab personnel.
  • Provides daily oversight and supervision of students, post-docs and technicians in lab to ensure research experiments are followed according to protocol. Assists in development of new lab techniques and troubleshooting problems.
  • Maintains supply inventory to ensure chemicals, lab supplies and equipment are available and stored properly in accordance with regulations. Maintains and creates protocols for EH&S office. Oversees lab inspections; maintains a chemical inventory database.
  • Captures and maintains records related to use of animal models. Maintains and creates protocols for LAS. Oversees lab inspections.
  • Uses independent judgement in the daily operation of the lab to ensure safe and efficient use of resources. Monitors use of resources to ensure compliance with Federal guidelines and institutional protocols to include troubleshooting and maintenance of laboratory equipment, assessment of needed repairs and/or replacements.
  • Tracks and monitors budgetary resources to ensure effective lab operations to include assessing and scrutinizing supply/animal/equipment purchase requests, reconciliation of invoices and budget reconciliation.
  • Develops and manages the quality assurance plan for specific research initiatives to ensure the integrity of the research is maintained.
  • Aids in preparation of professional papers on research results in collaboration with the PI and laboratory personnel; assists PI with data preparation for grant applications and renewals.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. from an accredited college or university with a minimum of one year of experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research.
  • OR Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned with a minimum of five years' experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research.
  • OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned with a minimum of eight years' experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Experience in biology, chemistry and/or biochemistry; Extensive experience in a research laboratory setting to include designing and conducting complex experiments and data analysis.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; M-F (Work outside of the standard business hours may be required)
Pay Band: B12
Salary: $62,300/annually - $79,400/annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
This position is (fully) funded through external sources. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of these funds.
