RESEARCH ENGINEER III
UAB Engineering and Technology Development (EITD) is seeking a project engineer to develop viable mechanical or electrical systems and component designs based on project requirements and specifications for the School of Engineering.
About the role
This position involves producing and supervising engineering drawings and schematics for the fabrication and assembly of complex engineering hardware and devices. You will review and check engineering drawings produced by others for adherence to technical specifications, work with CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) software, and demonstrate design experience with high-reliability instruments. The role includes collaborating with engineers of other disciplines to develop systems, particularly cold stowage systems for microgravity and space exploration, which preserve experiments in a thermally controlled environment onboard the International Space Station and launch/landing vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical or electrical systems and component designs based on project requirements and specifications.
- Produce and supervise engineering drawings and schematics for fabrication and assembly of complex hardware and devices.
- Review and check engineering drawings produced by others for adherence to technical specifications.
- Work with CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) Mechanical or electrical design software.
- Demonstrate design experience with high-reliability instruments.
- Collaborate with engineers of other disciplines to develop integrated systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Six (6) years of related experience (work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement).
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
Pay
$77,640 - $126,170
Schedule
Day/1st Shift (final schedule to be determined by the department/hiring manager). Work arrangement is onsite.
