Research and Development Engineer III
About the role
This position involves applying research theories, principles, statistics, and models to conduct experiments and research activities. Responsibilities include summarizing research results, communicating findings, assessing project scopes, and developing technical documentation.
Responsibilities
- Researches and analyzes data to determine feasibility of applications
- Develops and carries out test plans, supervises process trials
- Designs or develops new products, systems, and test procedures
- Evaluates equipment and processes for compliance with safety and environmental regulations
- Prepares requirement and procedural documentation as required
- Devises new processes to optimize the manufacturing process
- Works with engineering and shop personnel in fabricating prototype products and developing methods and procedures for testing products
- Reports suspicious and hazardous conditions to a supervisor
- Maintains clean, orderly, and hazard-free work areas
- Able to work with minimal supervision, be a self-starter, and be detail-oriented
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Science in Engineering or a closely related field
- Five years of prior experience in a related field, industry, or work environment
- Experience in developing test procedures
- Experience in developing product requirements and documentation
- Experience in coatings synthesis, characterization, and application testing
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook or similar programs
Skills and experience
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, test plans, and procedure manuals
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
- Ability to write and read English

- Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and using hands
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
