Research Associate/Lab Manager Biology

About the role

The Moyle Lab in the Department of Biology at Indiana University, Bloomington is seeking a Research Associate/Lab Manager. Our lab in Evolution, Ecology, and Behavior investigates the genetic and evolutionary processes that shape speciation and adaptation. We use experiments, observations, and genomic analyses alongside other tools, focusing especially on plant species in the hyperdiverse Solanaceae. The main goal for this position is to conduct research investigating ecological, functional, and genetic variation associated with fruit color transitions, to understand mechanisms of repeated evolution of this important and diverse trait.

Responsibilities

• Plant cultivation, husbandry, and measurement and/or preparation for genomic analysis
• Testing and troubleshooting new phenotyping techniques
• Supervising and mentoring undergraduate and other contributors to the project
• Supporting research compliance associated documentation
• Management and analysis of large datasets
• Learning, conducting and teaching other lab members our key research protocols
• Coordinating shared resources in the lab, managing general lab operations, troubleshooting problems, and participating in lab meetings
• Travel to research conferences or collaborator labs (possible)

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in a science-related field
• 2 or more years of experience in a research setting, or a Master's degree that includes research experience
• Strong organizational, coordination, and time management skills
• High degree of professionalism
• Ability to work effectively in a team and independently
• Proficient communication skills, written and verbal
• Experience with anticipating and solving technical problems
• Dependability

Preferred:

• Hands-on research experience with live organisms (especially plant species)
• Substantial knowledge of experimental design and management
• Proficiency in working with large datasets

Pay and schedule

• Salary commensurate with experience, starting at $44,950

• Initial appointment for 1 year, reappointment for up to 2 years contingent upon satisfactory performance
