Research Associate - Biology
About the role
The Research Associate will be mainly in charge of carrying out Drosophila health and longevity experiments, as well maintaining basic day-to-day operations in the lab. The Research Associate will supervise undergraduate workers and volunteers in the lab. The Research Associate will also have the opportunity to complete molecular biology experiments including PCR, qPCR, and Western blotting, as well as analyze data.
Responsibilities
- Drosophila husbandry, media production, and stock maintenance.
- Supervise undergraduate students on their Drosophilia health projects.
- Longevity, stress assays, health assays.
- PCR, qPCR, Western blotting.
- Analyze experimental data collected in R.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research.
- OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience; previous supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in biology or related field and experience in molecular biology and statistical analyses is preferred.
Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
- Must have a basic understanding of laboratory techniques.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Must have a high level of organizational skills.
Abilities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Must be highly motivated.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
- Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
- Salary Minimum: $45,400 annually.
- Pay Band: B8
- Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
