Overview

The Research Associate 2, MS is responsible for carrying out research assignments for large or multi-faceted projects, performing independent research, experiments, and laboratory techniques, and managing the daily operations of a specialized laboratory. This role entails the supervision of lab personnel, compliance with safety procedures, and collaboration with the Principal Investigator on lab finances, grant budgeting, and hiring decisions. Key responsibilities include coordinating lab reagents, consumables, equipment requests, and procurement. The role also involves maintaining mouse colonies, conducting various molecular biology experiments, ensuring reliable data collection and storage, and supporting the preparation of research papers and grant proposals. The successful candidate will demonstrate independence, strong organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Designs, plans, implements and evaluates complex multifaceted research projects/systems, including method development, adaptation and validation.
  • Collaborates with PI to define research endeavors and the development of research hypothesis and approach.
  • Solves complex methodology, protocol, procedural and research problems through design of techniques, procedures and policies that will achieve research goals.
  • Develops long range plans for supplies and equipment to ensure smooth operation of laboratory.
  • Investigates, analyzes and evaluates complex data, data collection systems and methods to reach scientific conclusions and ensures the integrity of research data.
  • Collaborates with PI to coordinate major lab renovations working with Facilities, Health and Safety, and Purchasing to ensure deadlines, safety standards and purchases are according to plans and within budgets.
  • Prepares scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Master's Degree in a scientific discipline and three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and training skills with the ability to manage complex research projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform independent research and laboratory techniques, and to analyze and interpret experimental data.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to supervise staff and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven experience with standard molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, cloning, cell culture) and managing lab operations.
  • High level of proficiency in relevant laboratory software and data analysis tools.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

  • Master's or Ph.D. in a related scientific discipline, with prior experience in managing lab staff and operations.
  • Expertise in molecular biology, next-generation sequencing technologies, and lab automation.
  • Proven experience with laboratory management, including budgeting, procurement, and compliance with safety protocols.
  • Proven experience with mouse colony management and various molecular biology and biochemical techniques.
  • Strong background in scientific writing and communication for research publications and grant proposals.

Pay

Salary Range: $68,000.00 - $120,500.00
