Job Summary

Aid in performing cell culture, real-time PCR, flow cytometry, western blotting, histological studies, gene silencing and overexpression, and genotyping assays in the laboratory. Help maintain mouse colonies and breed to generate unique combinations of lines for experiments. Track and manage lab supplies, purchases, and related records.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and execute lab experiments including cell culture, protein and RNA isolation, western blot, PCR, ELISA, and Immunohistochemistry according to research protocols.
  • Collect and maintain detailed records of all results and observations during experimental procedures.
  • Care for and handle laboratory animals, following established protocols for their care and handling, ensuring their well-being and adherence to ethical guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the research team, contributing to the development of experimental protocols and preparing experiments and equipment.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, and manuscripts based on experimental results.
  • Maintain the laboratory environment, including upkeep of equipment, inventory management, package pickup, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned, and experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.
  • OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned, and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cell culture, animal breeding, genotyping, routine lab experiments like western blot and RNA isolation/qPCR.
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn; excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; detail-oriented with strong organization, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills; ability to maintain confidentiality and meet deadlines; willingness and ability to work with research animals; highly motivated, strong work ethic and desire to learn; ability to work independently with only general supervision.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).

Salary Range: $17.88-$21.63 hourly. Pay Band: B5 Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.

Recruitment Period: Until Filled.

  • All selected candidates are required to successfully pass a Background Check review prior to starting with Augusta University.

  • Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive an Augusta University vehicle.
