About the role

The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University seeks a researcher to perform molecular biology/biochemical experiments, minor surgical procedures, microscopic analyses, and statistical/computational analyses. Responsibilities include observing animals, maintaining mouse breeding colonies, and conducting studies on Alzheimer's disease, neuropsychiatric disorders, and the microbiome using transgenic mouse models.

Responsibilities

  • Perform molecular biology/biochemical experiments
  • Minor surgical procedures
  • Microscopic analyses
  • Statistical/computational analyses
  • Sample processing by microtome/cryostat sectioning
  • Observe animals daily for clinical or behavioral signs of illness and provide treatments as directed by veterinary staff
  • Maintain mouse breeding colonies, including genotyping
  • Perform studies on Alzheimer's disease, neuropsychiatric disorders, and the microbiome using transgenic mouse models
  • Feeding special diets, administering pharmacological drugs to mice, and weighing mice
  • Performing animal behavior tests
  • Performing all other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or other natural, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned, and experience in a research, basic science, or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.
  • OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or other natural, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned, and a minimum of three years of experience in a research, basic science, or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, complete work and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness and ability to work with research animals.
  • Ability to work independently with only general supervision.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).

Pay Band: B5

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.

Recruitment Period: Until Filled.
