Research Assistant I- Joy Lab
About the role
The Joy Lab is seeking a Research Associate I/II/III in Bar Harbor, Maine, who is enthusiastic about learning and implementing techniques in neuroscience research. The lab focuses on determining how brain circuits reorganize after a stroke, the contributions of these processes to motor function, molecular signatures driving recovery, and therapeutic targets for stroke. Techniques used include large-scale mesoscopic calcium imaging, optogenetics, gene targeting with viral vectors or transgenics, transcriptomics, and ethological measurements of behavior. This position offers the opportunity to build a foundation in neuroscience research aimed at identifying translatable therapies for stroke recovery. The ideal candidate is motivated, eager to learn new techniques, and willing to contribute to the organizational process of setting up a new lab.

Responsibilities
- Conducting experiments involving animal models of stroke, training on motor tasks, histology, and imaging.
- Analyzing data.
- Preparation of reagents.
- Maintaining an inventory of lab supplies and ordering lab consumables.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences.
- Experience in molecular biology techniques such as cloning and AAV virus packaging is desirable.
- Prior experience in animal research and a background in neuroscience is desirable but not required.
Pay
$18.59 - $29.51 per hour based upon experience.
