About the role
The Research Analyst is responsible for providing testing and data collecting activities to the Syensqo Specialty Polymers R&D Department. The applicant will perform a variety of routine and complex analytical procedures in the analysis of polymers, composite materials, and raw materials by various testing techniques including primarily liquid chromatography (HPLC, UPLC) and mass spectrometry (tandem MS, HRMS), as well as gas chromatography (GC and GCMS). The Research Analyst will develop new analytical methods, support best practices in the separation science laboratory, maintain analytical equipment, and work as a member of a team.
Responsibilities
- Safely perform a variety of routine and complex tests including but not limited to residual monomer content, quantification of contaminants or additives in polymeric materials, determination of purity for various raw materials, and qualitative characterization of complex sample matrices.
- Produce reliable and precise data to support R&D and QC customers.
- Record and interpret test results. Report data into LIMS system.
- Communicate with internal customers.
- Prepare samples for testing as required by test methods.
- Perform work with accuracy and in accordance with established procedures.
- Keep lab equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, and performing preventive maintenance.
- Perform all work activities in a safe and timely manner.
- Within workgroup, proactively identify safety-related items and initiate appropriate actions.
- Participate in safety audits and safety meetings, close open audit action items in a timely manner.
- Follow both written and verbal instructions.
- Provide full, complete, and accurate documentation of all work as required by LTMs, SOPs, and company policies and procedures.
- Perform housekeeping duties as required.
- Routinely maintain and clean laboratory facilities and equipment.
- Write SOPs, LTMs, and analysis reports; clearly communicate test results and procedures to team members and customers.
- Complete routine work without supervision; complete complex work under limited supervision.
- Creatively solve complex problems and be a resource with complex problem-solving skills in specific technical areas.
- Train other team members on the use of analytical instruments, methods, SOPs, LTMs, etc.
Requirements
- Minimum Education: BS degree in Chemistry or a related discipline.
- Minimum Experience: 1 year of analytical laboratory experience.
- Experience in liquid chromatography.
Qualifications
- Preferred Experience: 3+ years of experience in an analytical testing laboratory.
- Experience in HPLC/UPLC, mass spectrometry (tandem MS and HRMS), GC/GC-MS, and sample preparation methodologies.
- Experience in the characterization of polymeric materials.
- Interpretation of complex chromatographic data.
Skills
- Instrument skills including instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HPLC/UPLC, tandem MS, HRMS, GC, & GCMS equipment.
- Advanced computer skills to navigate instruments computer systems, LIMS, MS Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), Minitab, ACD Spectrus, etc.
- Analytical method development and validation.
- Passion for learning and expanding skillset to help achieve team objectives.
- Must be self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and capable of routinely working in a high-throughput laboratory environment.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn to assemble, operate, and troubleshoot a variety of analytical laboratory equipment.
- Passion for safe practices while working in an analytical laboratory.
- Work effectively with others and demonstrate a positive teamwork approach; regularly interface with internal customers.

Pay
The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $74,000-$82,000 per year. Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate, we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.
