Research Analyst
Office locations: Phoenix, San Diego, Denver (hybrid; remote considered for candidates outside commuting distance).
About the role
We have an opportunity for an experienced Research Analyst to join the firm’s Research & Knowledge Management department. This collaborative role supports the firm’s attorneys and business professionals with legal and business research. The position is part of a team of Research Services professionals and reports to the Director of Research & Knowledge Management.

Responsibilities
- Independently conduct legal and business research of varying complexity, analyze and synthesize results, and provide clear, concise summaries of findings to requestors.
- Use AI-enabled research tools and advanced search technologies to improve research efficiency; develop effective prompts; and review and verify AI-generated output against authoritative sources before incorporating the results into work product.
- Receive and clarify research requests from attorneys and business professionals, identify appropriate research approaches, and communicate regarding scope, timing, and results.
- Advise attorneys and business professionals on the selection and effective use of research resources.
- Provide research resource training and point-of-need guidance.
- Record research requests in the department’s ticket management system and billable research time in the firm’s time entry system in accordance with firm guidelines.
- Contribute to Research Services communications initiatives highlighting resources, services, and capabilities.
- Participate in evaluating new and updated research resources and provide feedback regarding their potential value to the firm.
- Participate in collaborative Research Services and department meetings and contribute to team discussions and knowledge sharing.
- Identify and implement process improvements related to the position's responsibilities.
- Maintain current knowledge of available and existing research tools applicable to the position's responsibilities, as well as developments in research concepts, techniques, and methods.
- Participate in professional development through internal and external training and involvement in professional associations.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of firm matters.
- Model qualities and performance expected of firm employees, including attendance, professionalism, engagement, responsiveness, and high-quality work product.
- Use resources in compliance with firm policies and licensing requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and MLS and/or JD.
- 4+ years of law firm research services experience required; practical legal experience a plus.
- Working knowledge of multiple areas of law.
- Experience researching case law, statutes, regulations, dockets and trial court filings, expert witness materials, attorney and judicial analytics, and verdicts and settlements.
- Proficiency with major legal, business, and financial research platforms, including Westlaw Precision, Lexis+, Bloomberg Law, Practical Guidance, Practical Law, VitalLaw, CourtLink, D&B Hoovers, S&P Capital IQ, and comparable resources.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively use AI-enabled tools in legal or business research, including prompt development, output evaluation, and validation of results against authoritative sources.
- Familiarity with time-entry, billing, and ticket-management systems.
- Ability to work independently, manage and prioritize multiple projects, and adapt to shifting priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to evaluate research results and synthesize relevant information into clear, concise summaries.
