Resale Store Worker

About the role

This position is for 22.5 hours per week. Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 7.5 hours and some Saturday availability.

Responsibilities

  • Operates the cash register, prepares and opens the cash register drawer with appropriate change, and at the end of the day closes the cash register in an accurate and efficient manner by totaling out cash register tapes with accuracy and accountability; records these and prepares bank deposit for the day; verifies these receipts with the supervisor or charge person.
  • Courteously and competently interacts with donors, co-workers, volunteers, clients, and customers; supports store procedures and guidelines, with friendliness, and sensitivity, and in a manner that promotes human dignity and respect.
  • Performs duties as outlined regarding referral clients and maintains documentation and filing of these services.
  • Provides client assistance.
  • Works directly with the store supervisor in the clothing store area regarding fixed pricing, sorting, storing, and displaying of clothing and household linens and materials, etc.
  • Receives approval from the supervisor regarding store purchases, and will be required to have the store supervisor check out these items. In the event of the supervisor’s absence, these items may be kept on hold in the designated staff layaway area until checked out by the supervisor.
  • Maintains order and cleanliness in the clothing, sorting, and display areas and is responsible for the security of procedures at the beginning and end of the workday.
  • Answers the phone, provides accurate information and/or will appropriately refer phone requests and messages as indicated.
  • Works collaboratively with AARP and other volunteers to maintain a cooperative, efficient, and team endeavor within the store’s ministry.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school / General education diploma.
  • Ability to accept instructions and apply them logically and reasonably and to make productive use of time.
  • The initiative, maturity, and flexibility.
  • Mets the public in a caring and courteous manner.
  • Good physical condition, capable of performing necessary lifting, uses proper safety techniques.
  • Good writing skills and telephone manners.
