Repair Welder - 2nd Shift
About the role
AMERICAN SpiralWeld Pipe Company is hiring for a 2nd Shift Repair Welder at their Great Lakes Operation in Flint, Michigan.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate Flux core wire welding machines for the Repair Rack.
- Strike (forms) arc, manually guide electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead.
- Weld in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions.
- Change out consumables such as gas bottles and set to proper pressures, change wire.
- Set welder Amps and Volts to welding specification and set wire feeder to proper speed to the welding specification.
- Self-examine weld for bead size, proper surface finish, and compliance with specifications.
- Chip off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
- Identify weld defects on pipe; identify areas of pipe that require repair.
- Position pipe on repair rack on the rotators to facilitate the repair process.
- Perform necessary preparatory work by grinding, gouging, or otherwise preparing pipe.
- Comply with all safety rules.
- Complete repairs within or at the standard time for repairs.
- Successfully pass entry and all annual weld tests.
Requirements
- Must pass a 3G weld test that includes carbon arc back gouging.
- Physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Must be able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Must be able to read, write, and effectively communicate in English.
Qualifications
- Level I welder requires minimal, if any, supervision to accomplish the essential functions of the job.
Skills
- AWS Certification preferred.
