Rental Accountant
About the role
We are seeking a detail-oriented Rental Accountant in Lansing, Michigan to support our Accounting department. This primarily administrative and regulatory role focuses on tenant documentation, resident accounts, compliance monitoring, and communication with residents and agencies. The ideal candidate will navigate complex housing regulations while maintaining accurate records and responsive communication.
Responsibilities
- Verify and process tenant documentation (move-ins, recertifications)
- Manage resident accounts and rent billing
- Prepare and submit required reports to housing agencies
- Monitor compliance with income limits and program guidelines
- Communicate with residents and agencies
- Initiate legal action for non-payment cases
- Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly agency reports
- Issue notices for annual recertifications and non-payment of rent
- Monitor and update waiting lists based on income limits for each program
- Refer non-payment cases to legal
- Bill monthly rent
Requirements
- Experience with the following housing programs:
- Rural Development
- Section 8
- Tax Credit
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Excellent computer and organizational skills
