Lease Accountant

About the role

The Lease Accountant position is based in Refresco’s Tampa Executive Headquarters and supports the lease accounting function, reporting to the Lease Accounting Manager on the North America Accounting/Controllership team. This role coordinates and enters leasing activity into the Planon lease software for all Americas locations, ensuring accurate and sufficient lease accounting records, assisting in the month-end close process, and generating lease schedules for monthly and quarterly reporting requirements while complying with internal controls.

Responsibilities

• Act as liaison between departments such as Procurement, Legal, and Supply Chain Finance to determine proper lease accounting treatment and ensure compliance with Refresco’s accounting policy.
• Create and capitalize right-of-use assets and lease liabilities in Planon by reviewing lease agreements, approved lease requests, entering contract information, and providing detailed descriptions.
• Perform quarterly reconciliation of lease payments in Planon compared to SAP and record necessary adjustments.
• Gather leasing information to enter lease renewals, terminations, and transfers in Planon.
• Generate files from Planon to load journal entries into SAP and record month-end journal entries.
• Prepare continuity schedules during month-end by compiling details of lease additions, renewals, terminations, and depreciation from Planon.
• Prepare lease reports and supporting schedules for forecasts, budget, and strategic planning.
• Contribute to the development of forecasts and the annual budget for North America.
• Prepare lease schedules for monthly and quarterly reporting.
• Assist in ad hoc and special projects for the Accounting Team.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in accounting or a closely related field preferred.
• 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience in public accounting or industry.

Skills

• Knowledge of IFRS 16 and ASC 842 lease accounting standards preferred.
• Experience with SAP preferred.
• Proficient in Excel and Word.
• Experience with Power BI and Power Query preferred.
• Strong team player able to work across multiple functions.
• Able to work under deadline pressures.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable to change.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
