Remote Volunteer Web Accessibility Specialist — Believe in Me Nonprofit
About the role
Believe in Me is a Washington-based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and young people through scholarships, education initiatives, community partnerships, and volunteer expertise. The Web Accessibility Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring that all digital experiences are accessible to people with disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Audit websites, forms, navigation, documents, images, video, and campaign content for accessibility barriers.
- Evaluate keyboard access, screen-reader behavior, headings, labels, contrast, focus, alt text, captions, and error messages.
- Document findings with priority, user impact, remediation guidance, and verification steps.
- Collaborate with WordPress, content, design, marketing, video, QA, and program volunteers.
- Build reusable publishing checklists and accessibility acceptance criteria.
- Support accessible scholarship, volunteer, donor, event, and community-partnership information.
- Apply inclusive language and disability-respectful practices.
Requirements
Both professional expertise and relevant lived experience are valued. Ideal candidates should have knowledge of digital accessibility, WCAG, inclusive design, WordPress, UX, web development, QA, assistive technology, accessible content, or disability advocacy.
Qualifications
Experience with WCAG, inclusive design, WordPress, UX, web development, QA, assistive technology, accessible content, or disability advocacy is preferred.
