Remote Volunteer Data Engineer — iLevelUP

Responsibilities

• Map approved data sources, owners, schemas, flows, refresh needs, and retention requirements
• Build maintainable ingestion and transformation pipelines with validation and observability
• Implement data contracts, lineage, error handling, reconciliation, and safe retry practices
• Support reviewed schema changes, migrations, backfills, and rollback plans
• Create automated tests, alerts, runbooks, and technical documentation
• Coincide with application, database, analytics, security, privacy, and program owners
• Apply encryption, least privilege, data minimization, environment separation, and secret management
• Use synthetic or de-identified data in development whenever possible
• Never ingest, copy, expose, or retain data beyond approved purpose and authority

Qualifications

• Experience with SQL, Python or a comparable language, ETL or ELT, relational databases, APIs, and workflow orchestration
• Strong data modeling, testing, observability, Git, cloud, and documentation fundamentals
• Familiarity with privacy, security, schema evolution, backup, and recovery
• Experience with education or nonprofit data is helpful
• At least 21 years old and willing to complete screening and confidentiality requirements
