Volunteer Data Architect Role
The volunteer Data Architect will define models, standards, ownership, lifecycle, and integration patterns for an educational platform supporting underserved youth and young people. They will also review schema, pipeline, vendor, and reporting changes for consistency and risk.
Responsibilities
Inventory authorized data domains, systems, owners, definitions, classifications, and flows.
Develop conceptual and logical models aligned with approved product and program needs.
Define standards for identifiers, schemas, metadata, lineage, quality, retention, and deletion.
Recommend fit-for-purpose storage, integration, access, backup, and recovery patterns.
Apply privacy by design, least privilege, data minimization, separation of duties, and secure defaults.
Review proposed schema, pipeline, vendor, and reporting changes for consistency and risk.
Document decisions, alternatives, dependencies, migrations, and deprecation plans.
Coordinate with product, engineering, analytics, database, security, and privacy owners.
Qualifications
Senior experience in data architecture, modeling, governance, databases, integration, or cloud systems.
Strong relational and analytical modeling, metadata, lineage, security, privacy, and lifecycle knowledge.
Ability to communicate architecture clearly to technical and nontechnical collaborators.
Experience with privacy-sensitive or youth-serving systems is helpful.
At least 21 years old and willing to complete screening and confidentiality requirements.
