Remote Patient Observer

About the Role

Provides support to the patient care team by offering remote continuous observation of multiple patients to ensure safety and prevent injury. Navigates and retrieves information from the electronic medical record and communicates with members of the healthcare team. Requires the ability to concentrate in a busy environment. This position is located on campus.

Responsibilities

• Provides remote continuous observation of multiple patients to ensure safety and prevention of injury.
• Conducts one-on-one direct, continuous observation for injury prevention of high-risk patients (e.g., those with confusion, delirium, self-destructive behavior, or fall risk).
• Manages multiple responsibilities, urgent responses, and challenging situations effectively.
• Displays proficiency in utilizing monitoring technology.
• Navigates and retrieves information from the electronic medical record.
• Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills when collaborating with the interdisciplinary team.
• Notifies clinical care team of any change in patient’s condition or attempts to harm self.
• Monitors patients continuously, ensuring the patient remains in full view at all times.
• Uses respectful verbal cues to encourage patient cooperation and engages in conversation or distraction activities if desired by the patient.
• Communicates patient concerns to oncoming staff during shift changes.
• Notifies bedside staff to address poor-quality monitoring.
• Maintains documentation per procedure.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required.

Physical Requirements

Characterized as sedentary work requiring exertion up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
