Remote - Drug Utilization Review (Pharmacist)

Remote position open to candidates in Arizona, Texas, Indiana, New Hampshire, Florida, New York, and Washington state.

About the role

This is a 100% remote, 3-month contract position (possible extension) responsible for reviewing medication orders for clinical appropriateness, identifying potential drug interactions, supporting safe dispensing practices, resolving medication-related issues, and maintaining compliance with applicable federal and state pharmacy regulations.

Schedule

• Nights: 7 PM – 5 AM PST
• Nights: 10 PM – 8 AM PST
• Swing Shift: 1 PM – 11 PM PST

Pay

$60 – $70/hour, based on education, experience, and healthcare credentials.

Responsibilities

• Maintain comprehensive customer profiles including current and past medical history, clinical and laboratory data, and concurrent medications (including over-the-counter and home remedies).
• Evaluate physician medication orders for appropriateness of drug, dosage, potential interactions, and route of administration. Make recommendations for therapy changes to the prescriber as appropriate.
• Operate and troubleshoot pharmacy automation systems.
• Utilize, monitor, and troubleshoot automated dispensing and fulfillment systems to ensure accurate, efficient, and timely preparation of prescription orders.
• Collaborate with pharmacy technicians and engineering teams to resolve automation issues, optimize workflows, and maintain compliance with quality and safety standards.
• Accurately dispense controlled substances in accordance with DEA regulations and state-specific laws.
• Maintain thorough, timely, and auditable records of all controlled substance transactions, including inventory management, reconciliation, and reporting requirements.
• Answer clinical questions and provide guidance to healthcare team members.
• Document all healthcare team communications.
• Investigate and resolve medication errors.
• Implement policies and procedures in accordance with state and federal laws.
• Maintain required regulatory documentation.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support pharmacy operations across departments as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. degree.
• Active and unrestricted Pharmacist license in the state of employment. Additional state pharmacy licenses may be required.
• Experience with Drug Utilization Review (DUR).
• Knowledge of clinical pharmacy practice and medication safety principles.
• Strong understanding of federal and state pharmacy laws and regulations.
• Ability to support a night shift schedule aligned with the Pacific Time Zone.
• Ability to manage high call volume while maintaining quality customer service.
