(Remote) Director of Product
About the Role
Lead the Product organization within R&D, reporting to the VP of R&D. You will manage a team of five, including Product Managers, Product Owners, and Subject Matter Experts, across NorthStar’s full product portfolio (CIS7, Customer portal, Mobile workforce management system, and adjacent products). The role focuses on establishing a mature Product operating system to improve intake, discovery, prioritization, roadmap communication, and outcome measurement. This is a remote position open to candidates anywhere in Canada and the US, with approximately 20% travel required, including monthly trips to Ottawa and periodic travel to customer sites and industry conferences. Candidates must hold a valid passport and be legally eligible for international travel. Preference will be given to candidates who can work in the EST timezone.
Responsibilities
- Lead customer discovery, validate problems before engineering commitments, define success metrics, and measure realized value post-release.
- Set the standard for well-reasoned product decisions at NorthStar.
- Design and implement repeatable processes for intake, discovery, prioritization, roadmap, and governance.
- Coach five product professionals into strategic leaders, establishing clear roles, accountability, and a culture of ownership and customer focus.
- Partner with Engineering, Professional Services, Sales, Support, and executive leadership to improve forecast accuracy and communicate roadmap decisions clearly.
Requirements
- 10+ years in Product Management, including 5+ years leading Product teams.
- Proven track record of shipping products customers value, not just managing processes.
- Experience building or maturing a Product operating model in a scaling organization.
- Strong product instincts: ability to distinguish good bets from bad and articulate the reasoning.
- Executive communication skills and the ability to influence without authority.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience.
- Comfort using AI-enabled technologies (e.g., copilots, chat-based assistants, automation tools) while maintaining security and compliance standards.

- Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits starting from your first day.
- Employee stock ownership and RRSP/401k matching programs.
- Lifestyle rewards and remote work options.
Pay
