About the Role

Lead the Product organization within R&D, reporting to the VP of R&D. You will manage a team of five, including Product Managers, Product Owners, and Subject Matter Experts, across NorthStar’s full product portfolio (CIS7, Customer portal, Mobile workforce management system, and adjacent products). The role focuses on establishing a mature Product operating system—improving intake, discovery, prioritization, roadmap communication, and outcome measurement—while elevating product judgment to ensure high-quality decisions. This is a remote position open to candidates anywhere in Canada and the US, with approximately 20% travel required, including monthly trips to Ottawa and periodic travel to customer sites and industry conferences. Candidates must hold a valid passport and be legally eligible for international travel. Preference will be given to candidates who can work in the EST timezone.

Responsibilities

  • Lead customer discovery, validate problems before engineering commitment, define success metrics up front, and measure realized value after release.
  • Set the standard for well-reasoned product decisions at NorthStar.
  • Design and implement repeatable, lightweight processes for intake, discovery, prioritization, roadmap, and governance.
  • Coach five product professionals into strategic product leaders, establishing clear roles, accountability, and a culture of ownership, curiosity, and customer focus.
  • Partner with Engineering, Professional Services, Sales, Support, and executive leadership to improve forecast accuracy and communicate roadmap decisions clearly.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in Product Management, including 5+ years leading Product teams.
  • Track record of shipping products customers value, not just managing processes.
  • Experience building or maturing a Product operating model in a scaling organization.
  • Strong product instincts: ability to distinguish good bets from bad and articulate the reasoning.
  • Executive communication skills and the ability to influence without authority.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enterprise B2B SaaS experience.
  • Experience introducing modern product practices into an established organization.
  • Fluency with AI-enabled product development.
  • Direct experience in the utilities industry, including familiarity with utility operations, regulatory context, and industry vendors/customers.

Skills

  • AI & Innovation Mindset: Commitment to leveraging emerging technologies (e.g., copilots, chat-based AI assistants, automation tools) to improve workflows, solve problems, and increase efficiency while maintaining security and compliance standards.

Benefits

  • 3 weeks’ vacation and 5 personal days.
  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits starting from your first day.
  • Employee stock ownership and RRSP/401k matching programs.
  • Lifestyle rewards.
  • Remote work flexibility.

Pay

Salary range: $110,000 – $150,000.
