Relocate to SF: Head of People
Notice: This is an on-site role based in San Francisco, California. Relocation is required, and we're happy to discuss timing and support during the process.
About the role
You'll be the first dedicated People leader at Pylon, responsible for multiple sub-functions including people operations, HR, performance & compensation, recruiting, and culture as we scale. The role requires a player-coach approach, where you will own both the strategic vision and the day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities
- Own People Ops: Implement and run HRIS, equity administration, brokers, and immigration counsel.
- Onboard and Offboard: Manage onboarding, offboarding, payroll, benefits, compliance, and other HR processes.
- Performance & Compensation: Set up and manage comp bands, review cycles, PIPs, and other performance-related tasks while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Recruiting: Develop and maintain the headcount plan, ensuring alignment between the plan and actual headcount, and closing offers.
- Culture: Ensure the company's core values are upheld and foster a strong, in-person culture in San Francisco.
Requirements
- Experience scaling People from 50 to 500 employees.
- Proven ability to handle complex HR processes and employee relations issues.
- Strong understanding of HRIS, equity administration, and immigration laws.
- Ability to build a high-performing team and culture.
- Experience with performance management and compensation strategies.
- Knowledge of recruiting best practices and tools.

- Non-traditional background in HR to gain insights into driving a company forward.
- Experience with performance and employee-relations calls, including PIPs, terminations, and layoffs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
