Relief Veterinary Technician - Emergency

About the role

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring experienced Relief Veterinary Technicians to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department. The role offers an exciting, fast-paced opportunity to utilize gained skills and expand them under the guidance of talented professionals.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital, including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique, including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Qualifications

• Experience in a veterinary setting preferred.
• Current, unrestricted license to practice veterinary technology in the state of employment.
• Proficiency in medical math and administration of medications.
• Ability to perform phlebotomy and place intravenous catheters.
• Experience with digital radiography and other diagnostic techniques.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Passionate about pets and animal care.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $25 - $35 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

Relief positions may vary based on hospital needs, typically ranging from 6 to 12 hours per shift, with varying days and nights.
