Relief Supervisor (Biospringer)

About the role

Biospringer is a division of Lesaffre, a global leader in the fermentation of microorganisms for various industries including food, healthcare, and industrial biotechnology. This role involves covering for Production Supervisors and supporting the Production Manager and Superintendents in production oversight.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate commitment to safety protocols and participate in safety programs
• Oversee Process and Drying Operators, ensuring they complete control sheets for each process
• Cover open Production Supervisor shifts as needed and perform required tasks
• Maintain inventory and order specific materials for the production plant
• Aid in inventory management for staged production materials, ensuring correct lot numbers and FIFO compliance
• Create and maintain standard operation procedures and logs
• Assist in resolving process and quality issues, including creating procedures, troubleshooting equipment, and other related tasks
• Participate in the implementation of new procedures and processes
• Identify and address training deficits, assisting Production Superintendents in making appropriate corrections
• Aid in SAP activities such as month-end, SAP batching, lot reconciliation, and other related tasks
• Follow up with training, procedures, knowledge, and other areas to ensure continuity across shifts
• Understand and enforce Safety, GMP, and HACCP programs
• Update production schedules as needed
• Assist with annual reviews and discipline actions for hourly production operators
• Approve or deny vacation requests and maintain an employee schedule for the production team
• Perform other duties as assigned depending on operational needs

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Biotechnology, Chemistry, Production Management preferred or at least 2 to 3 years experience as a supervisor for a food-processing manufacturer
• Basic math, chemistry, and microbiology knowledge to work under minimal supervision and assess situations, weigh alternatives, and take decisive action
• Ability to recognize and analyze production problems and identify possible causes
• Ability to supervise multiple people and prioritize various duties to ensure consistent, quality product
• Superior communication and customer service skills in relationships with coworkers, management, and other departments within the company
• Ability to stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and occasionally lift up to 60 pounds
• Ability to be forklift certified
