Travel is required, approximately 10% of the time.

Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems Sector is seeking a Reliability Systems Engineer – Level 4 to join our team. This position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining associated business and/or customer funding, as well as the candidate obtaining final clearances and program access within a reasonable period of time.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various reliability-related tasks, including:
    • Leading reliability support to the design team through design tradeoffs, reliability predictions/assessments, de-rating analysis, allocation of reliability requirements, failure rate estimation, and facilitation of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
    • Facilitating critical items identification and documentation of controls/mitigations.
    • Providing support to design reviews and failure investigations.
  • Create reliability block diagrams/models that reflect the functions, failure modes, and characteristics of the system/unit being analyzed.
  • Work with the engineering team to develop technical solutions to potential reliability and availability problems.
  • Adapt probability and statistical tools/principles to recognize and solve problems involving non-standard configurations/definitions of system success.
  • Utilize standard commercial best practices and industry tools to cost-effectively conduct reliability analyses and assessments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline and 8+ years of engineering experience, or
  • Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 6+ years of engineering experience, or
  • PhD in a STEM discipline and 4+ years of engineering experience.
  • Understanding of how to perform and assess various reliability predictions.
  • Familiarity with modeling/simulation software tools used for reliability analysis.
  • Familiarity with interpreting electrical schematics/drawings, functional block diagrams, and ability to accurately create reliability block diagrams.
  • Experience performing and documenting a Unit or System level Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) based on standard commercial best practices.
  • Experience performing and documenting piece-part/component failure rate estimation using best available data (e.g., handbook methods, life test-based, etc.).
  • Active SCI access at time of application with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within the last 5 years, or an active U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance (or equivalent) with an SSBI completed within the last 5 years and the ability to obtain and maintain active SCI access.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering.
  • Understanding of technical principles, theories, subsystem design, and knowledge of general satellite design.
  • Hands-on reliability analysis and modeling skills for satellite, directed energy hardware, and systems.
  • Experience or exposure to availability modeling and analysis.
  • Experience performing Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and failure rate estimation.
  • PM&P and Electronics Design experience or exposure.
  • Advanced user in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Active U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance (or equivalent) with an SSBI completed within the last 5 years, along with active SCI access at time of application.

Pay

Primary level salary range: $142,200.00 – $213,400.00. The above range represents a general guideline; actual base salary offers consider factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may also be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
