About the role

Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems Sector is seeking a Reliability Systems Engineer – Level 2 to join our team in Redondo Beach, CA.

Responsibilities

• Perform various reliability-related tasks including:
  • Leading reliability support to the design team through design tradeoffs, reliability predictions/assessments, de-rating analysis assessment, allocation of reliability requirements, failure rate estimation/assessments.
  • Facilitation of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), critical items identification, and documentation of controls/mitigations.
  • Providing support to design reviews and failure investigations.
• Create reliability block diagrams/models that reflect the functions, failure modes, and characteristics of the system/unit being analyzed.
• Work with the engineering team to develop technical solutions to potential reliability and availability problems.
• Adapt probability and statistical tools/principles to recognize and solve problems involving non-standard configurations/definitions of system success.
• Utilize standard commercial best practices and industry tools to cost-effectively conduct reliability analyses and assessments.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline plus 2+ years of engineering experience OR Master’s degree in a STEM discipline.
• Understanding of how to perform various reliability engineering-related tasks such as reliability predictions, failure rate estimation, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
• Familiarity with interpreting electrical schematics/drawings, functional block diagrams, and ability to accurately create reliability block diagrams.
• Active SCI access at time of application with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within the last 5 years and prior to start date OR active U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance (or equivalent) with an SSBI completed within the last 5 years and the ability to obtain and maintain active SCI access.
• Travel: 10% of the time.
• Clearance required for start: Yes (SCI).
• Relocation assistance may be available.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering.
• Understanding of technical principles, theories, subsystem design, and knowledge of general satellite design.
• Hands-on reliability analysis and modeling skills for satellite, directed energy hardware, and systems.
• Familiarity with modeling/simulation software tools used for reliability analysis.
• Experience in performing Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
• Experience in performing piece-part/component failure rate estimation using an industry handbook method.
• Advanced user in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Active U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance (or equivalent) with an SSBI completed within the last 5 years, along with active SCI access at time of application and prior to start.

Pay

Primary level salary range: $91,800.00 – $137,600.00. The above range represents a general guideline; base salary offers consider the scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
