Temporary full-time role based in Hoover, AL (35244) with a hybrid work model: 3 days in office, 2 days remote. Shift: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Estimated duration: 6 months. Hourly rate: $56.00.

About the Role

The Release Train Engineer (RTE) manages and optimizes the flow of value through the Agile Release Train. The RTE provides program-level leadership, facilitates Agile planning and ceremonies, manages risks and dependencies, removes impediments, coordinates delivery across teams, and drives continuous improvement. The RTE ensures alignment between Agile execution, business strategy, stakeholder commitments, and organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee medium-sized or two small-to-medium Agile Release Trains with complex scope and interdependencies.
  • Facilitate coordinated PI/release planning and ensure effective communication among teams, stakeholders, and customers.
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies and synchronization meetings across teams and Release Trains.
  • Monitor Agile delivery metrics and use insights to improve execution and organizational performance.
  • Identify, resolve, report, and escalate impediments, issues, risks, and dependencies.
  • Coordinate major feature releases involving multiple teams, ARTs, or solution groups.
  • Track features and capabilities throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters on Lean-Agile practices and mindsets.
  • Manage changes to quarterly plans and evaluate the impact on delivery.
  • Monitor overall program execution and delivery of business value.
  • Ensure ART activities remain aligned with company strategy, commitments, and goals.
  • Facilitate communication and information flow across the ART.
  • Develop retrospective improvement roadmaps and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Manage and operate within the Agile Release Train budget.
  • Facilitate relationships between ART teams and other departments.
  • Collaborate with the PMO to support program execution and operational excellence.
  • Partner with Product and Solution Management, Product Owners, and other stakeholders to maintain alignment between strategy and execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or High School Diploma/GED plus 10 years of relevant experience).
  • 6+ years of experience as a Release Train Engineer, Scrum Master, Product Owner, or Agile Project/Program Manager.
  • 6+ years of experience leading one or more Agile Release Trains (ARTs) across multiple Scrum/Agile teams.
  • 6+ years of experience with Agile metrics and reporting to identify delivery risks, measure predictability, and drive continuous improvement.
  • 6+ years of experience coordinating Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Product/Solution Management, PMO, and engineering teams.
  • 6+ years of experience driving Lean-Agile transformation, retrospective improvement roadmaps, and organizational process.
  • Strong understanding of Agile at Scale and SAFe methodologies.
  • Experience managing program-level risks, impediments, dependencies, and delivery.
  • Experience facilitating PI/release planning and large-scale Agile ceremonies.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple teams, release trains, and solution groups.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead teams through both direct and influential leadership.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage competing deadlines.
  • Understanding of program budgets and budgeting within a SAFe environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) or SAFe Agile Practitioner certification.
  • Experience interpreting Agile metrics and using them to identify risks and improve delivery.
  • Prior people-management or leadership experience.
  • Experience coordinating complex programs with significant cross-team dependencies.
  • Experience working with Product Owners, Product/Solution Management, PMO, Scrum Masters, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience managing quarterly/PI plan changes and assessing their impact.
  • Experience creating retrospective improvement roadmaps and driving organizational improvements.

Pay

Hourly rate: $56.00.
