About the role
The Release of Information Specialist plays a vital role in supporting patient care by managing medical record requests, safeguarding confidential health information, and ensuring timely, accurate compliance with HIPAA and regulatory requirements. The role serves as a key resource for patients and providers, delivering exceptional customer service while coordinating high-volume requests in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
- Process and fulfill medical record requests, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with HIPAA, state, and federal regulations.
- Retrieve, scan, transmit, and maintain patient records while ensuring proper documentation and file organization.
- Review and validate authorizations for the release of protected health information.
- Prioritize and manage high-volume requests from multiple sources within established turnaround times.
- Provide exceptional customer service by assisting patients, providers, and callers with record requests and related inquiries.
- Educate customers on privacy, confidentiality, and information release requirements.
- Respond to internal and external customer needs using available resources and established procedures.
Skills
- Emr, Epic, Health information management
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 3 years of ROI experience (preferred)
- ROI Navigator Module in EPIC
- Strong customer service skills
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality / HIPPA
- Data entry and processing accuracy of 95%
- e-fax, use of PDF application
