About the role
The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (“The HARRIS CENTER”) is seeking a Release of Information Coordinator to join our team. This position reports to the Director of Medical Records and is responsible for managing the Release of Information (ROI) process in Central Medical Records (CMR).
Responsibilities
- Responds to request to disclose protected health information in compliance with federal/state guidelines.
- Delivers records to court in response to a court subpoena or court order.
- Trains Health Information Technicians within 10 days of request on release of information procedures.
- Enters documentation of release of information in EPIC.
- Uploads completed authorization to disclose health information forms in EPIC.
- Processes all written requests for disclosure of information within fifteen (15) business days of receipt.
- Responds to phone calls pertaining to release of information within one (1) business day.
- Ensures all Authorization to Disclose Health Information forms are filed in the chart and entered in chart control within assigned timeframe.
- Enters documentation of release of information from service sites in Chart Control within (30) days of receipt.
- Completes other related projects and duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or General Education degree (GED) required.
- Associate degree with certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) from the American Health Information Management Association with 1 year of medical records experience preferred.
- Minimum 2 years release of information experience within a medical record setting or relevant office experience required.
- Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred.
Qualifications
- A working understanding of medical record and documentation standards, organization, security and release of information requirements.
- Effective oral and written communication skills and mathematical aptitude.
- Sound judgment, problem solving and decision making skills.
- Basic understanding, ability and aptitude in computer programs; electronic medical record, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access programs, file management, email, Internet use and keyboarding.
