About the role

The Fiscal Accounts Technician II is responsible for reviewing and finalizing Statewide Vendor Payments submitted to the General Accounting Division. This role is part of the State of Maryland Comptroller's Office, which provides accounting and fiscal support services to state agencies and assists the State Comptroller in meeting constitutional responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Process all payments within 5 days of receipt, ensuring compliance with state laws, rules, regulations, administrative policies, and procedures.
  • Audit more than 2 million invoices annually, totaling approximately 73 billion dollars, to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage competing priorities and time-sensitive payments, collaborating with peers, unit managers, and state agencies to assist vendors in obtaining proper and timely payments.
  • Provide guidance and support to all accounts payable operations within state agencies.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Experience: One year of experience reconciling agency accounting systems to fiscal control systems or developing automated spreadsheets, ledgers, and reports using accounting software packages, or identifying budget trends and recommending budget realignments.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Financial Clerical/Finance Technician classifications or specialty codes in the financial field of work at a rate of one year of military experience for the required experience.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
  • Must successfully undergo fingerprinting upon appointment.
  • Must not have disqualifying charges, including any felony, crime of moral turpitude, identity theft, assault, battery, or drug-related offenses.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to be eligible for employment.
