About the role

To perform the work necessary to process accurate and efficient hospital patient registration and secure the necessary supporting documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes the accurate identification of all patients, committing to using precise approaches to verify patient identity and assure the proper matching and/or creation of the patient record.
  • Communicates duplications or deviations from standards to appropriate parties in a timely manner.
  • Gathers and records complete demographic and financial information to accurately register or pre-register all patients into the hospital information system.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of complete patient processing workflow and expedites transactions to assure patient safety.
  • Maintains room/bed/location control, admissions notifications, and authorization numbers (as appropriate) in cooperation with designated staff.
  • Ensures necessary consent forms are signed and properly maintained in the record.
  • Maintains current knowledge of insurance regulations, payor billing sequences, proper documentation of prescription orders, and the assignment of physicians to all visits.
  • Applies the use of all available resources to properly verify insurance and assures thorough documentation is applied on all visits.
  • Effectively communicates with the patient regarding copay/deductible responsibilities (as appropriate) and furnishes the patient with all required consent forms in a concise and informational manner.
  • Assures the patient receives all required compliance documents including, but not limited to: Patient Bill of Rights, Privacy Practices, Advanced Directives, NYS Your Rights, Patient Portal, Surprise Bill Disclosure, and the Observation Notice, among others.
  • Recognizes and analyzes customer needs and expectations, accommodating patients and families in ways that facilitate efficient registrations with high levels of customer service.
  • Promotes positive relationships within and among other departments, patients, clinicians, physicians, and support staff to enhance services to patients.
  • Communicates effectively within the department and between shifts to keep staff properly informed.
  • Promotes and portrays a high level of professionalism, both technically and personally, while adhering to the departmental dress code policy and maintaining a professional appearance and positive attitude.
  • Possesses a strong work ethic and exhibits optimism.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Customer Service, Computer/Data Entry, or prior Clerical Experience (healthcare desired) preferred.
  • Medical Terminology preferred.
  • Minimum typing skills of 30 WPM and Windows 95 typing proficiency.
