About the role

The Registered Respiratory Therapist delivers critical and non-critical patient care services to all age groups using selected invasive and noninvasive techniques related to the cardiopulmonary system. The role provides respiratory care predominantly in critical care areas and serves as the shift lead, making assignments, handling staffing issues, and responding to personnel matters.

Responsibilities

• Engage in population-appropriate communication, recognizing growth and development milestones and tasks.
• Provide clear instructions to patients and families regarding treatment and involve them in assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care.
• Identify physical limitations of patients and deploy interventions as necessary.
• Recognize and respond appropriately to patients and families with behavioral health problems or unique psychological, religious, or cultural needs.
• Perform treatments, administer medication, or operate equipment safely, responding to signs or symptoms of abuse or neglect.
• Assess patients, monitor progress, and make recommendations for therapeutic interventions based on outcomes.
• Perform invasive and non-invasive therapeutic and diagnostic modalities according to department policy and procedure.
• Record all information accurately in the patient’s legal record and maintain department records.
• Conduct hand-off of care using the SBAR Model.
• Educate patients on disease states, wellness, home care modalities, and safety.
• Serve as a preceptor to provide meaningful learning experiences for orientees and students.
• Apply technical knowledge to consult with physicians regarding cardiopulmonary status and act as a resource.
• Support leadership initiatives.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree (minimum required); Bachelor's Degree (preferred).
• Graduate of a two-to-four-year AMA-approved Respiratory Therapy program.
• RRT credential by the National Board of Respiratory Care within one year of graduation or date of hire.
• Current State of Ohio License.
• Current BLS certification (with ACLS, PALS, or NALS for respective work areas).
• 1 year of equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of cardiopulmonary disease states and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Demonstrated leadership ability in department and clinical settings.

Pay

Expected starting salary range for this position is between $27.33/hr. and $33.78/hr. The actual pay rate will depend on factors such as years of experience, unique skills and abilities, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, and other position requirements.
