About the role

The Registered Respiratory Therapist delivers critical and non-critical patient care services to all age groups using selected invasive and noninvasive techniques related to the cardiopulmonary system. Provides respiratory care predominantly in critical care areas and is responsible for shift leadership, including making assignments, handling staffing issues, and responding to personnel issues.

Responsibilities

• Engages in population-appropriate communication and has knowledge of growth and development milestones.
• Provides clear instructions to patients/families regarding treatment and involves them in assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care.
• Identifies physical limitations of patients and deploys necessary interventions.
• Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
• Interprets population-related data and plans care accordingly.
• Identifies and responds to unique psychological, religious, or cultural needs.
• Performs treatments, administers medication, or operates equipment safely.
• Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
• Performs and monitors patient progress and response to services; assesses patients and makes recommendations based on outcomes.
• Performs invasive and non-invasive therapeutic/diagnostic modalities according to department policy and procedure.
• Correctly records all information in the patient legal record and maintains department records.
• Hand-off of care performed using the SBAR Model.
• Educates patients on disease state, wellness, home care modalities, and safety.
• Functions as a preceptor, providing meaningful learning experiences for orientees/students.
• Applies technical knowledge to consult with physicians regarding cardiopulmonary status and acts as a resource.
• Supports leadership initiatives.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree (minimum required); Bachelor's Degree (preferred).
• Graduate of a two-to-four-year AMA-approved Respiratory Therapy program.
• RRT credential by the National Board of Respiratory Care within one year of graduation or date of hire.
• Current State of Ohio License.
• Current BLS (with ACLS, PALS, or NALS for respective work area).
• 1 year of equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of cardiopulmonary disease states and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Demonstrated leadership ability in department and clinical settings.

Pay

Expected starting salary range for this position is between $27.33/hr. - $33.78/hr. The actual pay rate will depend on factors such as years of experience, unique skills and abilities, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, and other position requirements.
