About the role
The Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is assigned patient care and clinical or managerial responsibilities based on their educational preparation, licensing laws, competency, and the specific needs of patients. Assignments consider the complexity and dynamics of each patient's condition, including:
- Age of the patient
- Cultural, spiritual, and religious practices
- Emotional needs or barriers
- Desire and motivation of the patient
- Physical and/or cognitive limitations
- Language barriers
- Complexity of the required assessment
- Type of technology used in care delivery
- Factors necessary for making appropriate care decisions
