About the role

This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and standards of professional nursing practice. The role is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under their direction, utilizing specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to assess data and plan, provide, and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients.

Banner Thunderbird Medical Center (BTMC) is a Level 1 Trauma Center and a premier West Valley destination for surgical, oncological, cardiovascular, neuroscience, orthopedic, pediatric, and women and infant services. Schedule

• Monday through Friday – 4 days a week
• 10-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM
• 1 weekday overnight call and every 4th weekend call

Responsibilities

• Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
• Reviews patient history, diagnostics, and laboratory data; reports abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
• Formulates and implements a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from patients, families, and the health care team.
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to review and revise the plan of care based on patient needs.
• Provides direct patient care, coordinates, delegates, and supervises activities of the health care team.
• Promotes continuity of care through accurate and complete communication with other caregivers.
• Evaluates patient and family responses to care and teaching; revises the plan of care as needed.
• Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in accordance with policy.
• Participates in shared leadership, education, orientation, and mentoring of staff, students, and families.
• Contributes to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care.
• Actively participates in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, including professional organizations.
• Interacts with staff, physicians, patients, families, external agencies, and clergy to support patient care.
• Synthesizes and prioritizes data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes.

Requirements

• Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure.
• BLS certification required; additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
• Experience in the clinical area for which applying is desired; must demonstrate clinical performance competencies annually.
• Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year of experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months.
• For Home Health settings, must operate a personal vehicle with a valid driver’s license and active auto insurance.
• For Behavioral Health roles serving children at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, or BUMG/BUMCT, an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card is required at hire and must be maintained.
• For BUMCS Behavioral Health roles, an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card is required at hire and must be maintained.
• For Banner Home Care AZ roles, an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card is required at hire and must be maintained.
• For Banner Staffing (BSS) Behavioral Health roles in Arizona, a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card is required at hire and must be maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
• Professional certification preferred.
• Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
