About the role

This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and standards of professional nursing practice. The role utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to assess data and plan, provide, and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients.

Nurses must have previous ICU, ER, or other procedural area experience. Responsibilities include prepping and recovering patients who receive conscious sedation, starting IVs, drawing labs, assessment, and patient education. Procedural nursing duties in angio, CT, and US cases are required, with occasional floating to MRI for nurse monitor cases or cases under general anesthesia.

Must live within a 30-minute drive to the hospital due to strict 30-minute response times when on call.

Responsibilities

• Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
• Reviews patient history, diagnostics, and laboratory data; reports abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
• Formulates and implements a plan of care, including realistic, measurable goals in collaboration with the patient and family.
• Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, ensuring compliance with policies and standards.
• Delegates and supervises care provided by other licensed nurses and personnel.
• Promotes continuity of care through accurate and complete communication with other caregivers.
• Evaluates patient and family response to care and teaching; revises the plan of care as needed.
• Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record.
• Participates in shared leadership, education, orientation, and mentoring of staff, students, and families.
• Contributes to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care.
• Actively participates in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes.
• Interacts with staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to support patient care.
• Synthesizes and prioritizes data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes.

Requirements

• Current, valid RN license in the state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure.
• BLS certification is required; additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
• Experience in the clinical area for which you are applying is desired; must maintain clinical performance competencies.
• For Banner Registry and Travel positions: minimum of one year of experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months.
• For Home Health settings: valid driver’s license, active auto insurance, and ability to operate a personal vehicle.
• For Behavioral Health roles serving children: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment.
• For BSS Behavioral Health roles in Arizona: State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
• Professional certification in a relevant specialty.

Schedule

• 4 days a week, 10-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM (some shifts may start at 6:00 AM depending on role).
• Rotating on-call, weekends, and holidays; on-call hours are 5:30 PM to 7:00 AM.

Banner Children’s Hospital at Desert features a 76-bed NICU, 24-bed PICU, six pediatric ORs, and a 22-bed ED, along with dedicated pediatric rehab, radiology, oncology, and hematology capabilities. The hospital utilizes advanced technology, including iCare ICU monitoring and robotic surgery, to provide high-quality, family-centered care.
