Registered Nurse RN Medical Imaging IR

Phoenix, Arizona – Day shift in the Nursing job category at Banner University Medical Center - Phoenix, a 730-bed academic medical center and Level 1 Trauma and Comprehensive Stroke Center.

About the role

This position is for an Interventional Radiology (IR) Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for administering and continuously monitoring patients undergoing moderate sedation. IR RNs collaborate with procedural techs to prepare procedure rooms in a high-acuity, advanced neurovascular and interventional radiology environment. You will work directly with leading specialists, delivering cutting-edge therapies for stroke, trauma, and complex vascular disease.

Schedule: 4 × 10-hour shifts per week (7:30 AM – 6:00 PM), with a rotating weekday off. Required on-call: 1 weekday call shift every 2 weeks and 1 full weekend call shift every 6–10 weeks.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
• Review patient history, physical, diagnostics, and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
• Complete assessments and reassessments according to patient needs and organizational policies.
• Formulate, implement, and revise a plan of care based on assessment data, patient/family input, and the medical plan of care.
• Set realistic, measurable goals in collaboration with the patient and family, considering age-specific and cultural needs.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to plan and review care.
• Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the health care team.
• Provide care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and standards.
• Delegate appropriately and supervise the provision of care by other licensed nurses and personnel.
• Promote continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers.
• Evaluate patient and family responses to care and teaching; revise the plan of care as needed.
• Evaluate patient progress toward goals and outcomes in collaboration with the health care team.
• Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record, ensuring legibility, timeliness, and accuracy.
• Provide care based on best evidence available; participate in research activities within clinical practice.
• Participate in unit or facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
• Precept and mentor others as appropriate.
• Contribute to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care; participate in professional organizations.
• Supervise staff and workflow of the department, if applicable.
• Interact with staff across departments, physicians, patients, families, external contacts, and other health care providers to report or clarify information.
• Work with clergy to provide spiritual support.
• Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes.

Requirements

• Current, valid RN license in the state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for the current state of practice.
• BLS certification required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in ICU or ED required.
• Experience in the clinical area for which you are applying is desired.
• Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of work, demonstrated through annual validations.
• For Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions: Minimum of one year of experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area.
• For Banner Registry and Travel physician practice positions: Minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a physician practice or acute care setting.
• For Home Health settings: Must operate a personal vehicle with a valid driver’s license and active auto insurance.
• For Behavioral Health clinical settings serving children: Must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at hire and maintain it for the duration of employment; an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
• For BUMCS Behavioral Health clinical settings: Must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at hire and maintain it for the duration of employment.
• For Banner Home Care AZ: Must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at hire and maintain it for the duration of employment.
• For Banner Staffing (BSS) Behavioral Health roles in Arizona: Must possess a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at hire and maintain it for the duration of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
