Responsibilities

• Focus on the quality of care provided for individuals with ostomies, fistulas, draining wounds, tubes, altered skin integrity, and incontinence
• Wound and Ostomy certification required within 24 months of employment
• Facilitate the rehabilitation and health maintenance of patients and their families through assessment of needs, education, counseling, and coordination of care
• Work collaboratively with other health care professionals in the roles of care provider, educator, and consultant in a variety of settings throughout the medical center
• Provide leadership, education, and management to further the clinical specialty
• Report to Ambulatory Nurse Manager
• Consult and cooperate with many disciplines throughout Mayo Clinic related to the wound, ostomy, and continence clinical specialty
• Function as a liaison between the consumer, community, and professional organizations related to the clinical specialty
• Provide expert, integrated, cost-effective quality patient care through coordination of clinical care for high-risk patients with complex issues across the continuum of care settings
• Integrate knowledge of advanced pathophysiology, human responses to health problems, and non-disease-based etiologies to assess, plan, coordinate care, monitor, and evaluate patient outcomes
• Support professional nursing practice across practice settings and the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family
• Function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, including accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients
• Provide leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts
• Possess excellent communication skills; be skillful in mentoring and teaching; participate on committees or projects

Qualifications

• BSN required
• One year RN experience required
• Graduate of a baccalaureate Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited nursing program
• If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of current LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is required
• Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing (CWOCN) Certification preferred
• If not currently practicing as a WOC RN, at least one year of successful work experience in medical-surgical nursing within the past five years required
• Demonstrates advanced clinical knowledge and competence in specialty area
• Ability to collect, compare, sort, and prioritize information for decision-making
• Ability to manage stress and complex problem-solving issues
• Self-directed with strong written and verbal communication skills
• Internal applicants should submit their three most recent performance appraisals

Must obtain prior to start date:

• Current RN license by applicable state requirements
• Maintain current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association; American Red Cross
• Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area

Pay

$42.31 - $63.50 / hour

• Full Time
• Hours/Pay Period: 56
• Schedule Details: Sunday-Saturday, Days, 8-hour shifts with variable start times
• Weekend Schedule: Every 6th Saturday
