The Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse (WOCN) is a specialized healthcare professional responsible for providing expert care to patients with complex wounds, ostomies, and continence issues. The WOCN should have specialized training and certification, as well as excellent communication, critical thinking, and clinical skills. This position is vital for improving patient outcomes, enhancing comfort, and promoting independence in individuals facing complex care challenges.
Responsibilities
- Assess and manage patients with complex wounds, ostomies, and continence issues
- Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient needs
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care
- Provide education and support to patients and families regarding wound care, ostomy management, and continence issues
- Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans as necessary
- Participate in ongoing education and training related to wound, ostomy, and continence care
Requirements
- Bachelor's Level Degree in Nursing
- Active RN License in Virginia or a compact state
- 3 years of RN experience required
Qualifications
- Specialized training and certification in wound, ostomy, and continence care
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and clinical skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Strong organizational and time management skills
