About the role
Hutchings Psychiatric Center is recruiting a Registered Nurse Supervisor 1 Psychiatric to supervise registered nurses and direct care staff.
Responsibilities
- Direct and review the work of nursing staff
- Prepare and monitor staffing schedules
- Develop daily staffing plans for nursing care
- Ensure compliance with established standards of nursing care in accordance with State, federal, and accreditation agency requirements
Requirements
Candidates may qualify through one of the following pathways:
- NY HELPS Program (open to all candidates):
- License and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State
- Three years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience working with individuals diagnosed with mental illness, addiction, or substance use disorders
- Substitution: A bachelor’s degree in nursing can substitute for 1 year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience; a master’s degree in nursing can substitute for 2 years
- Current State Service Employees:
- One year of experience as a Registered Nurse 2 or Registered Nurse 3, or
- Two years of experience in any Grade 18 or higher position requiring a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State
- Eligible Titles for Transfer/Non-Competitive Promotion (current State employees):
- One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, or
- Two years of permanent service as a Registered Nurse 2 Psychiatric (for non-competitive promotion)
- Qualifying Titles (due to December 22, 2022 title structure change):
Permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in any of the following titles may qualify:
- Community Mental Health Nurse (and all parenthetics)
- Community Nursing Services Consultant (Developmental Disabilities, Home Health Services, or Mental Health)
- Health Services Nurse
- Hospital Nursing Services Consultant
- Infection Control Nurse
- Medical Care Representative
- Nurse 1, Nurse 2, or Nurse 3 (and all parenthetics)
- Teaching & Research Center Nurse 1, Teaching & Research Center Nurse 2, or Teaching & Research Center Specialty Nurse
- Senior Utilization Review Nurse

Pay
- Hiring rate: $113,178 (includes statutory hiring rate for PS&T Grade 22, Increase Hiring Rate, and Geographic Pay Differential)
- Job rate: $124,230 (includes statutory job rate and Geographic Pay Differential)
- Shift differential pay: 7% for evening and weekend day shifts, 10% for night shifts

- Background checks will be required
- Maintaining a valid New York State nursing license and registration is mandatory; failure to do so may result in removal from the position
- Eligibility requires not being listed as an excluded individual or entity on Federal or State Medicaid/Medicare exclusion lists (or any other Federal or Federally assisted program)
- If appointed, you may need to become an enrolled Medicare provider, obtain a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number, and actively participate in billing through Medicare and Medicaid
