Responsibilities

  • Utilizes strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status
  • Determines the priority of the patient’s problems and needs
  • Implements clinical nursing interventions to acute, critical patients that require intensive medical care
  • Develops and performs patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes
  • Ensures a safe and therapeutic environment
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team
  • Conducts initial and ongoing patient assessment
  • Observes the surgery and surgical team from a broad perspective and assists the team to create and maintain a safe and comfortable environment for the patient
  • Manages the nursing care of the patient within the OR and coordinates the needs of the surgical team with other care providers
  • Provides pre-op, intra-op, and post-op care, including assessment and discharge instructions

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Associates degree or Bachelors degree in Nursing
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • BLS Basic Life Support, ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support or PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (preferred at hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care; ACLS and/or PALS may be required within 6 months based on specific surgical department requirements)
  • CNOR Certified Perioperative Nurse (preferred, not required)
  • SGNA Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (preferred, not required)
  • Two years of RN experience in Critical Care Department (preferred, not required)
  • Completion of OR internship program (preferred, not required)
  • Successful completion of Peri-op 101 (preferred, not required)

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduates of an accredited Associates degree or Bachelors degree in Nursing
  • Experience: Two years of RN experience in Critical Care Department (preferred, not required)
  • Training: Successful completion of Peri-op 101 (preferred, not required)

Skills

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to assess patient status and determine priorities
  • Knowledge of clinical nursing interventions and patient care plans
  • Experience in operating room settings
  • Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams
  • Proficiency in conducting initial and ongoing patient assessments
  • Experience observing surgeries and assisting surgical teams
  • Ability to manage nursing care within the operating room and coordinate with other care providers
  • Knowledge of pre-op, intra-op, and post-op care, including assessment and discharge instructions
