About the role

As a Registered Nurse on the Medical Surgical Orthopedic unit at Banner Health, you will specialize in caring for orthopedic patients. Banner Health’s academic model and teaching orientation support learning at all levels, fostering a collaborative environment between nursing, physicians, and other therapies.

This is a Day position scheduled from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, three 12-hour shifts per week. You will have the opportunity to participate in the Nursing Clinical Ladder Program, utilize a self-scheduling tool for shift and weekend coverage, and receive an 18% night shift differential and a flat rate $3/hour weekend shift differential.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
• Review patient history and physical with patient/family, ensuring completion within appropriate timeframes.
• Review diagnostics, laboratory data, and report abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
• Complete assessments and reassessments according to patient needs and policy.
• Formulate a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from patients, families, and the health team.
• Initiate a realistic, measurable plan of care based on patient-specific needs and medical plans.
• Consider physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs in care planning.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to review and revise the plan of care based on patient status.
• Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the health care team.
• Provide care based on physician orders and nursing plans, complying with policies, standards, and regulations.
• Delegate and supervise care provided by other licensed nurses and personnel.
• Promote continuity of care through accurate communication of patient status to other caregivers.
• Evaluate patient and family responses to care and teaching, revising the plan as needed.
• Evaluate patient progress toward goals in collaboration with the health care team.
• Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record legibly, timely, and accurately.
• Provide care based on best evidence and participate in research activities within clinical practice.
• Participate in unit or facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
• Precept and mentor others as appropriate.
• Contribute to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care.
• Actively participate in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, including professional organizations.
• Interact with staff across departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to support patient care.
• Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes.

Requirements

• Current, valid RN license in the state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure.
• BLS certification required.
• Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
• Experience in the clinical area for which you are applying is desired.
• Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of work.
• Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year of experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months.
• For Home Health settings, must operate a personal vehicle with a valid driver’s license and active auto insurance.
• For positions at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, BUMG, BUMCT, or BUMCS serving children, an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card is required at hire and maintained during employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
• For Banner Home Care AZ, an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card is required at hire and maintained during employment.
• For Banner McKee Senior Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit, a Colorado Fingerprint Clearance Card is required at hire and maintained during employment.
• For Banner Staffing (BSS) Behavioral Health roles in Arizona, a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card is required at hire and maintained during employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Professional certification preferred.
