Registered Nurse (RN) Nurse Educator Specialist - Family Birth Center

About the role

Major Responsibilities:

• Educates clinicians on the role of an Educator.
• Affirms the importance of adult learning principles and competency-based orientation systems.
• Designs, coordinates, implements, and evaluates educational programs and processes.
• Trades requests for educational offerings and designs programs to meet client needs.
• Maintains awareness of hospital and departmental procedure and policy changes.

Clinician/Practitioner Functions:

• Serves as a clinical education role model and resource for clinical practice.
• Consults on challenging, complex patients and/or patient populations.
• Assists nursing staff with goal attainment relative to patient health.
• Coordinates developments and revisions of clinical forms used for documentation.

Leader Functions:

• Demonstrates advanced leadership skills and acts as a mentor to Clinical Lead educators.
• Fulfills the role of a Facilitator/Change Agent across clinical services.
• Participates in designated Committees/Task Forces/Councils.

Consultant/Change Agent Functions:

• Functions as a clinical and educational consultant to coordinate and collaborate across the organization.
• Provides internal consultation to organizational leaders and providers regarding state-of-the-art educational methodologies and approaches.
• Makes presentations and reads meeting minutes.

Researcher Functions:

• Applies the role of the Researcher to improve clinical practices and outcomes.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members in the development, implementation, and dissemination of research.
• Promotes awareness of evidence-based practices by incorporating research findings into educational offerings/programs and clinical practice.
• Develops and/or revises policy and procedures based on research findings.

Requirements

Required Certifications:

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia.
• Professional certification in clinical or education specialty.
• BLS required.

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED Diploma graduate.
• Master’s degree in nursing.

Experience:

• Minimum of four years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care institution.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to use visual acuity to see monitor screen, computer, and hard copy materials.
• Ability to hear and verbally communicate in person and over the phone or radio.
• Ability to sit or stand for prolonged time periods.
• Ability to comprehend and learn the operation of various office equipment.
• Functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities with a grip strength of 50-60# specific to job evaluation.
• Ability to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel, and apply proper body mechanics during the transfers and transport of supplies and/or equipment using proper body mechanics.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 10 pounds specific to job evaluation.
• Ability to push/pull a cart carrying 25 pounds or more.

• Knowledge of current educational principles, teaching modalities, performance consultation, risk management, facilitation, and group dynamics.
• Understanding of competency-based education, licensure, and regulatory requirements.
