About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing direct nursing care to residents and supervising the day-to-day activities of nursing assistants. This role ensures the highest degree of quality care is maintained in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, as well as facility guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants
• Plan and coordinate shift services, programs, and activities with assigned nursing staff and support personnel
• Make written and oral reports concerning shift activities
• Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required
• Provide leadership to nursing personnel on your unit/shift
• Complete and file required recordkeeping forms/charts for resident admission, transfer, and/or discharge
• Receive and transcribe telephone orders from physicians
• Chart nurse’s notes in an informative and descriptive manner reflecting care provided and resident response
• Complete accident/incident reports and submit to the Director as required
• Perform routine charting duties in accordance with established policies and procedures
• Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician
• Develop and maintain good working relationships with inter-departmental personnel
• Create and maintain a warm, calm, and positive environment for residents and staff
• Receive and give nursing reports at the beginning and end of shifts
• Make rounds with physicians as necessary
• Administer professional services, including but not limited to:
  • Catheterization
  • Tube feedings
  • Suction
  • Applying and changing dressings/bandages
  • Colostomy and drainage bag care
  • Drawing blood
  • Giving massages and range of motion exercises
• Monitor assigned personnel to ensure compliance with safety regulations
• Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information
• Report unauthorized disclosure of resident information
• Ensure all nursing care is provided in privacy and staff knock before entering resident rooms
• Provide IV and IV site care as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Registered Nurse with a current unencumbered state license
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
• Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant
• Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, procedures, and regulations pertaining to nursing care facilities
• Current CPR Certification
• Experience in Long Term Care preferred

Physical Demands

• Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday
• Ability to cope with mental and emotional stress associated with the position
• Must meet general health requirements, including a medical and physical examination
• Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet
• May be required to assist in resident evacuation during emergencies
