About the role
As a Progressive Neuro Trauma Registered Nurse RN at Henrico Doctors' Hospital, you will coordinate and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care to those with acute and chronic neurological disease, injury, and trauma. This role involves working closely with a multidisciplinary team of neurosurgeons, neurologists, trauma specialists, and medical doctors to support positive patient outcomes in a Medical-Surgical level of care unit.

Responsibilities
- Assess patient condition during admission and throughout each shift, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status
- Perform procedures and care as ordered by the medical provider
- Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner
- Administer prescribed medications and monitor patient response
- Maintain knowledge of medications, assessments, procedures, and equipment used in neuro/trauma and medical-surgical care
- Patient Assessment & Monitoring:
- Perform comprehensive physical assessments, including vital signs, neurological status, pain levels, and other health indicators
- Continuously monitor patient conditions and respond to emerging clinical issues promptly
- Care Coordination and Treatment:
- Provide post-surgical care for patients undergoing neurosurgical interventions, including brain surgeries, spinal cord injuries, and trauma-related surgeries
- Patient Education & Support:
- Educate patients and families about their condition, prescribed medications, treatments, and home care instructions
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with neurosurgeons, neurologists, trauma surgeons, medical physicians, and other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive care plans
- Participate in rounds and team meetings to discuss patient care, progress, and discharge planning
- Communicate changes in patient status, complications, or concerns to the healthcare team in a timely manner
Requirements
- Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Registered Nurse Diploma
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification (must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date)
