Registered Nurse (RN) Medical Surgical Unit

About the role

The Registered Nurse (RN) position at Norfolk General Hospital's Surgical Unit in Norfolk, Virginia, requires a degree in nursing and a Virginia RN license. Candidates must have prior RN experience and possess a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire. A sign-on bonus up to $10,000 is offered for qualified candidates.

Department Overview

This 42-bed unit specializes in the care of adult surgical patients. Nurses are assigned to pod teams to assist patients recovering from surgeries such as Urology, General Surgery, ENT, Plastic Surgery, GYN Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Trauma Overflow. The unit also includes 6 beds for epilepsy monitoring and the Living Kidney Donor Transplant Unit. The average patient stay is 3-4 days.

Shift

Part-time shifts are available, including standard and weekend-only options. Shifts can be either full-time or part-time.

Education and Certification

A registered nursing degree is required, along with a Virginia RN license. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within 90 days of hire.

Experience

Prior RN experience is preferred but not required.
