Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg Unit
About the role
This position provides age-specific and developmentally appropriate care for neonate, adolescent, and adult patients. In addition to the above, the Critical Care Unit (CCU) Nurse provides direct professional nursing care for critically ill or unstable medical/surgical patients. The Charge Nurse partners with the Medical/Surgical Clinical Coordinator to manage the shift operations of the medical/surgical unit.
Responsibilities
- Affirms patient’s condition based upon observation, examination, and / or interview, laboratory findings, and other pertinent information
- Prepares, prioritizes, and executes the patient’s plan of care consistent with patient assessment data and physician’s treatment plans and professional standards of evidence-based practice
- Directs and delegates support personnel in implementing patient’s plan of care, provides supervision and guidance
- Implements nursing interventions to achieve progress toward expected patient outcomes or to stabilize a patient’s condition and / or prevent complications
- Evaluates and documents patient’s response to nursing care and modifies or revises treatment plans, and / or contacts physicians as circumstances require
- Provides patient education based on diagnosis, treatment plan or prescribed medical regimen in accordance with patient / family readiness and ability to learn
Requirements
- Current RN license with the Minnesota Board of Nursing, in good standing
- Current BLS must be enrolled in NH+C RQI program and complete the requirements within 90 days of enrollment. Must remain current (complete quarterly assignments prior to the end of each calendar quarter)
- Current ACLS must be enrolled in NH+C RQI program and complete the requirements within 90 days of enrollment. Must remain current (complete quarterly assignments prior to the end of each calendar quarter)
- Current PALS must be enrolled in NH+C RQI program and complete the requirements within 90 days of enrollment. Must remain current (complete quarterly assignments prior to the end of each calendar quarter)
- Initial Crisis Prevention Certification (CPI) within six months
- Workplace Violence education in New Employee Orientation and annually thereafter
- Trauma training modules (within 1 year of hire)
- EKG rhythm interpretation (competence must be documented in the first 6 months)
- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written English
Qualifications
- Staff Nurse: Current RN license with the Minnesota Board of Nursing, in good standing
- CCU Nurse: Competent in Med/Surg acute care
- Charge Nurse: Competency in CCU cares

Pay
The hourly wage range for this position is: RN ASN, $42.70—$62.79; RN BSN, $44.41—$65.30; RN MSN, $46.18—$67.91. These ranges reflect the base wage for this position.
Schedule
48 hours per two-week pay period 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM or 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM Every third weekend and every third holiday
